I hate living life without thinking.
I want to use this life well because I was given it once.
The most exciting thing about being alive is when I can keep up with the speed I'm running, side by side with people who overtake me.
I want to work with people who exceed my imagination, creating something amazing together.
Our mission is to increase the number of people who are excited by work by placing the right people in the right positions.
kay me Founder, Junko Kemi
On the night of the Great East Japan Earthquake, founder Junko Kemi, then running a management consulting company, decided to create a "business that will last for 300 years to support people with a strong will." She started a luxurious Japanese-made workwear brand focused on comfort, ease of care, and effortless coordination—solving a problem she personally faced.
Four months after the idea was conceived, the first appointment-only salon opened in Ginza 7-chome, showcasing about 60 dresses produced one by one. Promotion was initially limited to social media.
Customers in all parts of Japan can now access kay me’s special range of stretchy, washable and super soft jersey dresses
kay me hosts its first ever fashion show event at the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Tokyo
Our new "Try & Buy" style service launches (‘Shichakubin’), giving customers in Japan the chance to try any clothing item without a down payment – a first of its kind
kay me moves to a more prestigious location in the heart of Ginza, Tokyo
Following the mantra of ‘supporting ambitious people’, kay me opens a campus program to support customers in presenting and doing business in English
Born in Osaka, Japan. After graduating from the Department of History at Waseda University, Junko worked in sales and marketing at Benesse Corporation, followed by organizational HR consulting at PwC, and then as a management strategy consultant at Boston Consulting Group. Founded a marketing consulting firm in 2008, providing consulting services mainly in finance, IT, and energy industries. Started the kay me business in 2011, currently serving as both CEO and lead designer. Received the JNB Global Award for Excellence in 2017, the DBJ Women's Entrepreneur Award from the Development Bank of Japan in 2016, the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the British Chamber of Commerce in 2015, and the MIT Venture Forum Global Strategy Award in 2014.
History
Inspired by her grandmother's kimono shop, she developed a passion for supporting people who take on challenges. After graduating from university, she joined Benesse Corporation to learn sales skills and worked in sales and marketing. She then moved to PwC for experience in organizational HR consulting and later joined Boston Consulting Group, focusing on business development, sales performance improvement, and marketing strategy.
In 2008, she started her own consulting firm for energy and IT companies. The Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 inspired her to launch a D2C apparel business for working women, using 100% Japanese-made functional materials. Today, she is expanding globally with e-commerce and retail stores in Japan and Singapore, aiming to support challengers worldwide and promote "Made in Japan." She also pursues diverse business ventures to solve various challenges beyond the apparel industry.
